The Orthodox Crucifix is made up of two horizontal lines and one diagonal line that intersect a vertical pole holding the corpus of Jesus. The upper bar of the Orthodox Crucifix represents the phrase "INRI", which translates to "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews," a phrase placed on Jesus' crucifix by Pontius Pilate.
The lower diagonal bar of the Orthodox Crucifix represents both the foot rest that Jesus placed his feet upon and the two theives that were crucified with Jesus - the higher end for the Good thief (also known as St. Dismas) and the lower end for the unrepentant thief.
